Negative Space. Interieure desire
"A structure that wants to be another structure" (Pier Paolo Pasolini)

In the summer semester 2024, we will continue our work on temporal-spatial display formats as an investigation of the genre of "exhibiting".

After the programme evening "Ware die Leere , der Lehre Wahre , Lehre ware das" at mumok-kino/Vienna in January 2023, this time we are working in a location outside of institutionally defined presentation frameworks.

The "Tölzer Wandelhalle" (Bad Tölz) has been programmed by Florian Hüttner and Stephan Dillemuth as an exhibition venue for advanced international art since 2012. Exhibiting at this venue also means working on self-institution and its infrastructure.

As a formal and conceptual starting point for this project, we want to orientate ourselves on the concept of negative space with the negativity of showing and signifying.
We are working on models for exhibition and display under the aspects of referencing and re-referencing, which are potentials inherent in negative space. Literally and figuratively.

Negative space ...
Let us sketch it like this for the time being:

A form, derived from the investigation of a context, an environment, a space, develops Negative Space, by being transferred back into it or into it again: it points to the conditions of its appearance, to that which it brings to bear as its outside and yet which can never be fully grasped. This also means that the real shows a tendency to open up to the possible, from here to elsewhere, in order to re-establish itself from there here.

Interior desire...
... I ask myself: How can I understand this? What does it concern me?

The performative- and research-based development of the exhibition of the site "Tölzer Wandelhalle" at the site"Tölzer Wandelhalle" is accompanied by a reading on aspects of  installation, post-medium and their histories in Minimal and Conceptual Art.
From this discussion, possible contextualisations and thematisations of the students' own work and working methods will be pursued.
