2023W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04991

Description

Second skin, prosthesis, art object

The course Liquid Latex and its Application Possibilities is designed as an experimental learning space in which the characteristics and opportunities of natural rubber as a material are to be investigated, practically applied, and its limits tested.

In addition to its skin-like, often uncannily corporeal properties, which make it a suitable material for the production of prostheses in film, theater and performance, among other fields, its evocative associations with medicine, sterility and fetish will be discussed and contextualized.

In the course of the lecture, the participants will acquire knowledge about the origin, composition, processing, preservation and natural aging of latex, gain experience in the practical use of the material and are invited to develop and realize an artistic concept based on this knowledge.
