Description

REPEAT OF A PATTERN

according to typographic surface design & screen printing

Ideal for newcomers and those who need a little guidance with a topic into the media creative screenprinting on textile

Through the abstraction and reconstruction of typographic found objects from books / magazines / logos / urban environment etc., ornamental surfaces are designed, which can be further developed into a repeatable repeat pattern.

The creative approach is resumes from experimenting with manually dismantled and modified typographic templates and sketches through to the digital manipulation that follows from this.

Using the medium of serigraphy, screen printing, various techniques of pattern composition, layering and compression, further levels of surface designing are conveyed and pointed out.

This course requires a conscious perception of typographic elements and motivates to formulate or reflect on their requirements.

Through the playful deconstruction of font, typo layout and existing logo designs, his creative skills are revealed, as well as the further possibilities of ornamental compositions and surface designs.

The aim is to realize the results in the screen printing process on different materials in order not only to bring the craft printing medium and the various repeat systems (rapport, repeatable pattern elements) closer to the student, but also the bow in the applied field between craft, art and production

Examination Modalities

The presentation and implementation of the design concept will be evaluated, as far as the artistic adaptation of the templates in the screen printing process. Furthermore, the commitment, the relevant workshop and equipment care and their correct use are important and will be evaluated

Finally, a photographic documentation of the project in digital form must be sent to stephanie.klaura@uni-ak.ac.at

Comments

The course is ideal for beginners and newcomers to the medium of textile screen printing. No previous experience is necessary. The course offers the students an introduction to the medium and the workshop in order to be able to independently implement further possible projects (semester and diploma theses).

The course is offered in blocked sessions of 5 units.
Since both a theoretical and a practical part are dealt with in the teaching unit, a block unit is advantageous for efficient and goal-oriented work.
