Description

'Sculptureal Audio, Instruments of the Future' is not a clear line of history but rather an exploration dipping deep into our known beginnings of instruments and sound making in order to propell into future sound workings.

A expansive exploration, hands on, 'active' approach to pioneering sound including music, performing, objects in motion, new musical instrument design and augmented instruments. We will be working with physical sculpture and dipping into virtual as far as you dare reach. We will examine practical technology reaching to expansive approaches of sound, objectinstruments and sensor experiments.

A core piece we will be looking at and listening to is Rainforest IV (1973) by David Tudor and Composers Inside Electronics (CIE). The interactive sound piece is built of diverse objects and uses field recordings and transducers. Originally created for a performance makes this piece particularly good as a work which functions on many levels.
Individual projects are encouraged and especially collective works. In Sculptural Audio I offer, as David Tudor says:
“a garden of shared ideas with minimal fences.”

Field recording are great to bring and also feel free to select an object, scan draw it or bring it in, everyday and ordinary objects are welcome. If you cannot select one then bring in a few. Scan with Polycam LiDAR if your object is large, like a building. Could this become a virtual instruments and we can play the city?
I look forward to exploring the wonderful world of noise and music, installation building.

I am slowing uploading documents for you to dip into, this is not required reading. Relevant sections will be revisited together.
The space we meet in will have a sound system and mixing desk for sound exploration, layering, improvisation.

among other things we will look into the works by: Pauline Olivarios,  Atau Tanaka, Laurie Speigel, David Tudor and the futurists. We will explore echniques using contact mics, transducers and some very old things which somehow match very new tech.
