Geschichte und Theorie der Fotografie – von der Camera obscura zur KI

Ruth Eva Horak
Institute of Fine Arts and Media Art, Photography
2023W, Vorlesungen (VO), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04814

Description

Trigger warning: Here you will learn more about photography than you might like ...

The lecture gives an overview of the history of the development of photography: What role has it played as a companion of society, what visual languages has it produced, what questions has it raised for theorists and how is it used by artists? The more diverse the imaging processes, the broader their scope and the more numerous and immaterial the results, the more confusing the phenomenon of photography becomes. On the basis of a timeline, we will work out the most important contexts that have shaped our photography today and, at the same time, take a look at the reaction of contemporary artists.
