“Electronic avatars first arise in the most primitive form as moving cursor on the grid screen, when that screen becomes networked with other screens. The cursor on the user's screen opens a mouse hole into the unified power grid. Through the moving cursor we see the mind of a human subject revealed, who navigates information. The seed of this avatar is the potential of cyberspace, to mix information, intersubjectivity and real-time communication.“ The avatar and the power grid, Michael Heim, 2001

Metaplay.

Space and locality create reality. The significance of a place is defined by objects, avatars and identities or entities. Unique Identifiers - UIDs uniquely define virtual entities in the online metaverse. In the artistically explorative play with and in metaverses, conditions of capitalistically shaped world models are reflected, and negotiated in artistically designed Omniverse "Islands". Thus, one thing in particular emerges: a new understanding of space in relation to symbolic capital.

System-critical landscapes emerge in this current discourse through art as method. The new metaverses are about reflecting immanently on media. Artists like MosMax Hax, Selavy Oh and other pioneers of the metaverse influence current positions. In the new more physically reflective forms of metaverse games, these artists incorporate their own physicality using 3D scans. UBIK plays!
