Astrid Käthe Wagner
Arts and Society, Cross-Disciplinary Strategies
2023W, Projektarbeit (PA), 4.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04492

Description

Artistic work begins with an impulse, an encounter or stumbling upon something, partly unexpected and sometimes by chance.
During the work, decisions are made that lead to very different results and make significant statements with the formats and materials used by the artists.
Artworks and artistic attitudes can reflect or raise underlying issues about society, production and distribution, the environment, health, money, crisis etc.
This course is about learning from artists, their working methods and references within postmodern and contemporary art practices.
In each meeting we will reflect on the work of the featured artists in order to find ideas for own practical approaches.

Each student will present one artist/duo/group in a lecture. The list of respective artist positions and further details will be announced at the beginning of the semester in the first session on 9 October. The dates for the presentations are also allocated at this meeting.

Requirements:
Regular attendance, active participation as well as giving a lecture is required for the successful completion of the course. All students, including those from other classes or disciplines, are welcome.
