We are all islands – isolated, yet ultra-connected. 

An immunological understanding of community differentiates between immunized and de-munized bodies and territories, protecting some and sacrificing others. Based on this vision of community, capitalist, imperialist, and patriarchal ideology (and technologies) separate, sort apart, and create all kinds of borders. They consolidate racisms and anti-feminisms, and they foster extraction and dispossession. They accelerate the threats on ecosystems and the destruction of knowledges and practices living the world differently. 

Which vocabulary, emancipatory narratives, and artistic practices can enable another sense of community, based on social care and environmental justice, political solidarities, and human/more-than-human cooperation?

This course builds on two courses from the year 22/23, under the same title, which focused on ideologies of separation, bordering, and insularization and explored notions of belonging through the production of artistic strategies. This year’s main focus is set on actions and practices of solidarities. Working with a map of notions, strategies, and practices, collectively realized in relation to the three main topics last year, theories and fictions, ranging from diverse disciplines, will enable investigating existing solidarities and imagining future ones. 

This course is the first of a two-parts seminar throughout the summer 24. During the summer semester we will realise an exhibition and / or a series of public events at Volkskundemuseum Wien.

Research, development and presentation of a proposal toward performing solidarities.
