BUM BUM TSCHAK

Heribert Friedl
Institute of Fine Arts and Media Art, Site Specific Art
2023W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04356

Description

BUM BUM TSCHAK is going into the next round.

After the “Festival Genialer Dilletanten”, 1981 in Berlin, especially in the environment of art schools, an artistic vehemence developed, which was characterized by cross-genre experimentation and the use of new electronic devices.

Painters played in bands or founded clubs, musicians made Super 8 films. Dada and Fluxus were revitalized. Virtuosity was often deliberately avoided. The non-ability, the resistance against conventions, the art of forgetting and unlearning were supposed to open the way to an unrestrained power of expression, a new expressivity.

The aim of the course is to develop a musical structure with the available possibilities. To come to solutions by chance, or to a conception by improvisation. Constituting a musical structure via the experiment – the rehearsal. To give way to the ego, to the collective authorship. The urge to do is stronger than the search for perfection. Questioning the “right” and giving the wrong a chance. Confronting the public.

The course will be roughly divided into four sections, with the main focus on PRODUCTION, the practical work.

1. sounding out the “skills” of the course participants
2. probing the possibilities (equipment)
3. PRODUCTION (rehearsal room)
4. public performance

Examination Modalities

Be sure to keep all appointments! Committed and active participation in the rehearsals. Development of a common musical concept.

Comments

Minimal previous knowledge in making music would be an advantage, as well as your own instrument and/or equipment.

The course has a limited number of participants and is part of the site specific art curriculum. Students from other departments receive a place depending on room capacity.

The "course" will be held in German and English.
