Remixing teams – reinventing playing fields

Field, pool, hard court, rail and plaza - from planned sports fields and playing fields to self-appropriated squares and streets: The city offers a multitude of places that can be played on. For young people in particular, these places are important meeting places, but at the same time conflicts of use between different groups arise there. 

• Which free spaces are granted to young people in the existing and growing city? What role do sports fields play as social infrastructure for young people? 
• Which spaces are withheld from them, which do they appropriate? 
• According to which rules do they play there? Who is allowed to play?

Through field work in the city and in collaboration with schools (through ethnographic methods, (walking) interviews, walks) we will explore these and more questions. Based on these findings and the various backgrounds, skills and interests you bring to the group we will develop ways to expand the repertoire of sports fields and open spaces, rethinking and remaking the complex interplay of these places through players and users, different games and their rules, spatial and urban design etc. through an intervention or action in a specific place.
