First part of the seminar is a compact lecture series, which will provide a recap and overview of the principles of structural design and its application using built and unbuilt examples, with four lectures in total and time for discussion and further explanations.
Following that, students will analyze the structural systems and performance of a suitable built example of their choice, using a combination of observation, interpretive desk top studies and computational analytics. This will be done in group work
In addition to the critical analysis, we expect an assessment of possible improvements or alternative solutions, against the background of the architectural intent of the project.
The examination will be oral with a year-end presentation of the analysis work prepared over the duration of the course.
There will be a mid term review.
Active participation in the seminar will be considered in the final grade.
The seminar is in person. Attending the introductury lecture is a prerequisite for continuing to the second part of the seminar.
