Description

Practices / Foundations - Intervention/ Participation (Introduction) 2.0 SemStd [GO].

coupled course with:

Practices - Intervention / Participation II (Workshop in Penzing): 1.0 SemStd. [GO]
Registration: online

Number of participants: max. 15 p. // no previous knowledge necessary

What is an artistic intervention? What does "participation" mean? What does context mean? How do artistic practices that critically engage in societal issues relate to "artistic autonomy"? What  conditions determine these projects and how can they intervene in societal processes? These questions have been reformulated by documenta 15 in 2022 and are gaining visible attention, which we will discuss.

The course will introduce key artists, relevant examples of art projects and artistic practices since the 1970s until today, whose innovative performative practices are also significant for current art production. Special attention will also be given to women artists and the social context. In addition, we will discuss selected texts on socially engaged art together. Interventionist and participatory practices are becoming increasingly important - especially with regard to the role art can play for societal and ecological issues. This makes it all the more exciting to gain equally differentiated knowledge of this field.
