2023S, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 4.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04454

Description

This class is primarily aimed at students of the Art & Science department and deals with this year's class topic "Crystallisations" – from both the scientific and the art (historical) side. Technical aspects such as liquid crystals and X-ray crystallography are covered as well as the concept of nature in German Romanticism and the utopian architecture of the 1920s. At the center of all these considerations are metaphorical concepts such as self-organization of matter, non-biological growth, symmetry, aesthetics and the assumed evidence of the ability of nature to be artful.
