Arts and Society, Artistic Strategies
2023S, Projektarbeit (PA), 4.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04363
We are all islands – isolated, yet ultra-connected.
With (patriarchal) nationalist ideologies of separation, rising to deny the threat on ecosystems and indigenous knowledges; with technologies of separation developed to sort populations apart, to keep some people away from certain immunized islands; and thus reconfiguring the geographies of production, accumulation, extraction and dispossession – which vocabulary, narratives and artistic practices can enable another sense of community, based on social justice and solidarity, on human and more-than-human cooperation?
By using the possibility of an island as a starting point, the course is envisioned as a space to challenge preconceived notions of belonging, borders and communities through the production of artistic strategies. An existing collective (archipelagic) map of definitions and an (incomplete) glossary of (engaged) artistic strategies, will serve as a guide to develop artistic projects over the term in relation to the topics. The course will move between inputs, discussions, reflections, production and presentations.
Engagement in discussions, collaboration & attendance

Please note that this course consists of two parts. Please register for both courses with the title Insularities, Immunities, Communities held either by Anne Faucheret or Antoine Turillon.
