Julischka Stengele
Institute of Fine Arts and Media Art, Site Specific Art
2023S, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 3.0 ECTS, 3.0 semester hours, course number S04357

Description

This practice-led seminar is dedicated to the potential of spaces and bodies and their interplay as artistic material, medium and content.

The first date takes place in the premises at Paulusplatz, gives an overview of the  seminar as well as an insight into my own site- and situation-specific, performative, artistic practice. Afterwards we start directly into the first two practice sessions.

The following dates will take place outdoors. In different locations within the Viennese urban area, the performativity of body and space will be explored in practical exercises: How can I perceive a place, examine it, devote my attention to it? What do I notice? How do I react to it (with my own body), how do I enter into dialogue with my surroundings? What does a place tell me about itself, what stories can I tell there, with or about it?

In addition to the physical-aesthetic field research, we practice to reflect on the experiences and insights gained and verbalize them, regularly.

The course Body X Space lives from the active participation of the seminar participants.

Examination Modalities

Immanent: Regular attendance and active participation.
