2023S, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04348

Description

At the heart of this seminar is an investigation of power relations and visual production. Looking at the intersections between ethnography and photography, we are interested in analyzing how hegemonial visual representations inform the ways in which specific people have been and still are represented. Particularly, we are analyzing scopic regimes and the ways in which they inform visual production. What might come into view, once we decide to pay attention to the past of photography?

Collective learning by way of reading, freewriting, and being in conversation are integral components of the seminar. Questioning the positions and privileges we are able to inhabit, and therefore active participation in discussions as well as the reading of the texts is expected here.

Examination Modalities

The seminar is completed with a reflection paper (you’ll get details in the seminar on time).

Comments

The seminar will be held bilingual (German and English). The number of participants is limited to 15 students. If possible, we will invite guests or visit exhibitions.
