Description

Reenactment as artistic strategy

Reenactment means repetition, doubling and refers to the restaging of an earlier event at a later point in time - e.g. the revival of a political uprising, a speech, a performance or a film. Reenactment is a technique of remembering, a framework for historical thinking that enables us to keep two points in time or eras in mind at the same time. As creators, participants or observers, we begin to ask what the situations portrayed might mean to us concretely if we were to experience them personally. In the seminar Technologies/Practices we experiment with selected templates and their embodiment, re-enactment and interpretation. In addition, examples of performative works on the topic will be analysed and theoretical references included. This seminar lays the foundations for individual artistic project work.
