Art Sciences and Art Education, Art History
2023S, Vorlesungen (VO), 1.0 ECTS, 1.0 semester hours, course number S03646
This lecture offers an introduction into the arts and the visual culture in early modern times, as well as into the sphere of its historiography. Starting with the ars nova in the 14th and 15th century over the transformations of art throughout the 16th and 17th century and up to its social framing in the late 18th century. The focus lies on concepts of the image and its predominance within art historical writings about this period, but above that it also emphasizes the dispositive of representation as well as its shadows. Throughout this lecture, we will explore the relation of different artistic works to each other, but also the relationship between art and reality. Aspects that determine the content of each session are: perspective constructions, new concepts of sacred images, genre as a new subject, colonization, epistemology, changing status of the arts and the artists, and the establishment of academies as well as institutionalized forms of presentation.
Written exams in English or German: 26 June, 15:30-17:00 (prob. Auditorium, VZA7) and 2 October, 15:30-17:00 (location to be announced).
Oral exams may be given by appointment in exceptional cases.
