Theory of Living Spaces

Andrea Börner
Architecture, Urban Strategies
2023S, scientific seminar (SEW), 3.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S03285

Description

The course addresses spatio-temporal interrelations between human and non-human living environments. By means of individual narrations we explore various kinds of interdependencies, paying particular attention to seemingly contradictory assessments of scales and angles of observation.

SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY

Drawing from a distorted view of a genre that may be coined speculative documentary the course puts emphasis on developing a sense of reality that resides within and beyound the factual and narrative of how inhabitable space can be known, described, analyzed and imagined. Based on the movie The Wild Blue Yonder by Werner Herzog (2005), in 10 chapters we will browse through the history of mankind, its relation to nature and at the same time project trajectories of a future earth, deep into time, far from now.

Examination Modalities

Continuous assessment through frequent and active participation.
Presentation, investigation of a sub-topic.
Seminar-work: documented visual/textual elaboration with negotiable focus, related to individual interest and the subject of the course.
