Description

TITLE: The course of things

Learning through making

RESEARCH QUESTION: Action, reaction and evolution as series, chain or link by link; how can artefacts be communicated in an artistic or design context and ignite the desire to make?

BACKGROUND: It all starts with a found object that the participating students discover away from their usual streams of movement. Taken along or captured in the form of sketches or other arbitrary media, these are presented to each other and their potential mutually discussed. The aim is to recognise functions and values in the objects, to think and, if necessary, to rethink them. To free the artefact from its function, to reanimate, reproduce or adapt it. From minimal intervention to series, everything is possible. In the course of this, design and craft basics are discussed and the basic functions of 3D printing are learned. Within the framework of their own design, alternating teaching and learning concepts for students will be conceived that promote learning by doing as well as an awareness of design. These developed concepts will be presented and discussed by the participants in the group and a scientific seminar paper will be written on them.

Title inspired by the film "The Course of Things" from 1987 by Peter Fischli & David Weiss.
