Kaleidoscope
Stories & mediation from the tube
RESEARCH QUESTION: A moving image, designed in the coincidence of gravity, assembled from the smallest building blocks for a visual expansion of the senses. What can the motif of the kaleidoscope tell apart from its common, colourful glittering birefringence and what can didactic and artistic concepts for children and young people on this subject look like in teaching?
BACKGROUND: It is a simple process when one eye meets 2 glasses and 3 mirrors. The kaleidoscope is our frame, setting and starting point for a profound examination of visual perception. It is a tube that irritates, fascinates and takes us as viewers into our own very special worlds. The identity and character of these globes, however, is achieved primarily through the content of the kaleidoscope, which is usually small and inconspicuous and only gains impression and attention within the framework of the kaleidoscope. This small and seemingly minimal design space becomes the stage for their own very special worlds that the participants in this course design themselves. The aim is to reflect on and sensitise the small and minimal for the second, sharp look. To awaken this in the students and let them perceive many things in a more complex way, in their very own way. Perhaps the kaleidoscope with its content can awaken our senses beyond the visible, perhaps it can also build a bridge to biology or world history or let us discover distant galaxies.
The starting point for this course is the participating students' own creative activity. This is to be translated into an art didactic mediation idea for the subject of art and design / textile & technical work. These developed concepts are presented and discussed by the participants in the group and a scientific pro-seminar paper is written on them.
Consistent attendance (maximum of three excused absences), active participation in the course and timely completion of the assignments.
Absences due to illness must be documented with a doctor's certificate. If there are more than three absences, the course must be repeated or supplemented by selected and documented courses from the Bits and Bites experimental laboratory.
Presentation of an own artistic work and its translation into a teaching concept.
Timely submission of an art-didactic-scientific proseminar paper of approximately 10000 characters (without spaces) according to the specifications of the Centre for Didactics of Art and Interdisciplinary Teaching. The basics of scientific writing are required. The following deadlines must be met:
1st deadline: 31 January 2023
2nd deadline: 28 February 2023
3rd deadline: 31 March 2023
The prerequisite for participation is the completion of the course LV Einführung in die Fachdidaktik (Introduction to Subject Didactics).
The course is to be completed at the same time as the orientation internship (OP) and the Supervision OP.
