Beschreibung

Red LED's on and it reads: [rec]

Collecting and archiving, a practical exercise of research’s embodiment in social sciences and art.

Adressing archive as a process and form rather than a concept, this course consists of a two-day workshop intertwining theoretical inputs and practical exercises to introduce the idea of archival gesture in art practices (collecting and sorting elements, constructing a space for their consultation). It will take place in the area of Westbahnhof, a transit space in the middle of the urban.

Stemming from a questioning of the relationship between precise case studies and generalisation in social sciences, and guided by works in history and anthropology that stress on the physical implication of research, the course has in its core the study of bodies and gestures of research.

Collection and archive are a practical entry-point to the topic and are considered as knots of physical and sensitive connection to the objects studied. Participants will engage in collection and construction from an artistic perspective in order to bring a concise and immediate archive out of (what seems to be at first) very few.

The workshop takes place partly in the Westbahnhof area, and in the CDS studio
