Description

Introduction to Information Technology

This course provides a first introduction to information technology (IT). It does so on two levels: First, students will learn the basics of programming, algorithms and data structures in the programming language python.

Second, the complex connections of the contemporary digital sphere get explored, covering topics such as client/server architecture, the use and basic workings of cryptography, service architectures, networking, and more in a basic manner. To tame this complexity, students will unravel these complexities starting from a mundane, everyday activity.

The two levels get combined by creating a (basic) visualisation of the unravelling network and its connections.

Examination Modalities

10 % active participation online between classes

30 % contribution of code to the course project Tracing IT

30 % research for the course project Tracing IT
