2022W, Übungen (UE), 2.0 ECTS, 1.0 semester hours, course number S04399

Description

The ability to present your ideas clearly and persuasively is one of the most important skills in the modern workplace. However, nearly everyone has anxieties when it comes time to make a presentation, especially if the presentation is not in one’s native language. This highly interactive course will help students gain confidence as speakers and presenters regardless if they present to clients or their supervisors, participate in podiums discussions, lead seminars and workshops or lecture. The 3 key components of every presentation are explored and practiced: the Visual (i.e. Body language), the Verbal (i.e., Content) and the Vocal (i.e., Voice). In addition, the following topics are discussed: structuring presentations (e.g., Minto Pyramid logic, Persuasive Presentations, etc.), creating a narrative, dealing with stage fright, fielding audience questions, and the correct and effective use of presentation tools (Power Point, Excel, Flip Charts, Props).

Examination Modalities

Given the interactive nature of the course, a portion of the grade is based on the students' active participation in exercises and class discussions. A final student presentation tying together all elements of effective presentations will provide the other half of the grade.
