Picture Movie Madness!!!

A “picture movie” or “still-image film,” as the name suggests, is a film made up of a series of still images. A “splatter film” is a horror film with grotesqueness predominantly in the form of a fluid (fake blood, slime, ooze) “splattering” on surfaces as an action. These two types of film may seem worlds apart from each other, but in this course we will collaborate in an attempt to make a film that is both.

Overseen by Scott Clifford Evans, participants will work together on the film’s story and script, build the film set (or choose a film location), provide or make props and wardrobe, devise special effects, apply makeup, design a lighting scheme, act for the camera, and, of course, photograph and film the ensuing grotesque madness. There will be little-to-no budget for production, so hopefully the aesthetic will be trashy…splatter, suspense, chaos…let’s push the idea of the still-image film until it breaks and let’s do it together!

 

– OCT. 25, TUES. (18:00-00:00): Our introductory session will be a film night/movie marathon where we watch examples of horror and still-image films to discuss in the frame of the upcoming project. (6 hours)

– OCT. 28, FRI. (16:00-18:00): We will develop our film concept and determine which roles we will fill in production/filming. (2 hours)

– DEC. 9, FRI. (16:00-18:00): We will have a production meeting to determine progress and discuss the filming session. (2 hours)

– DEC. 18, SUN. (10:00-22:00): Filming Day! (10 hours)

– JANUARY (date tba): Film premiere! (2 hours)

The course is primarily reserved for students of the Department Applied Photography and Time-Based Media and the Department Graphic Design. Limited number of participants.
