2022W, artistic Seminar (SEK), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04206
Description
Cultural and art history are often taught in a rather isolated and localized way. This course aims to investigate how a particular art technology (e.g. painting, casting, ceramics) is perceived in different cultural contexts and art periods in both Europe and Southeast Asia. Using various examples, we will look into the different functions of art technologies and their historical context. In doing so, we try to apply a transcultural, comprehensive view on differences and similarities as well as the various influencing factors of art technologies.
Various guest presenters are invited to speak on selected art technologies and their development. The students have to prepare a presentation on an art technology of their choice by the end of the semester, outlining its influences and different manifestations in different cultural contexts. Finally, this must be summarized in a short-written report.
