Art Sciences and Art Education, Art and Communication Practices
2022W, artistic Seminar (SEK), 1.0 ECTS, 1.0 semester hours, course number S04123

Description

4 dates for students of the GO phase and interested parties.

In contemporary art and design practices, the terms performance and performativity have acquired multiple and complex meanings. As a format and tool of artistic and cultural practices, they serve to discover (or recreate) embodiment, localised context and sensory experience. In contrast to the still largely anthropocentric standpoint of performance studies, which has largely ignored technocultural issues, a new performative turn seeks to address the complex relationships between humans, machines, society and ecology.

A first introduction to the topic is offered by the examination of the installation and life performance Opus Et Domus by Maja Smrekar. Theoretical foundations will be worked out in the first two dates, followed by a joint visit to the performance in the Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab with a subsequent discussion with the artist on 10.11.2022. Impressions, observations and analyses will be discussed in a discursive final date. Independent performative statements can also be brought in by students as a result of the introduction and are considered equivalent in the examination modalities.
