Structural Design A

Wolf Mangelsdorf
Architecture, Structural Design
2022W, scientific seminar (SEW), 3.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04080

Description

First part of the seminar is a compact lecture series over a two-day block in the week of 10 October, which will provide a recap and overview of the principles of structural design and its application using well know illustrative examples, with four lectures in total and time for discussion and further explanations.

Following that, students will, in group work, analyze the structural systems and performance of a suitable built example of their choice, using a combination of observation, interpretive desk top studies and computational analytics.

In addition to the critical analysis, we expect an assessment of possible improvements or alternative solutions, against the background of the architectural intent of the project.

Examination Modalities

The examination will be oral with a year end presentation of the analysis work prepared over the duration of the course.

There will be a mid term review.

Active participation in the seminar will be considered in the final grade.

Comments
