2022W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S03577
Creative people sooner or later make contact with law on designs, trademarks or patents (intellectual property or IP rights) although, however, theses laws have been primarily implemented for industrialists. Having a registered design or a granted patent competitors can be excluded from doing identical or similar things. On the other side while working or performing on a project, IP rights of others may be infringed.
Intellectual property is crucial when it comes to the transfer of ideas and creativity into the world outside, at least as concerns business like oder business related areas.
The seminar focuses on conditions and options to use IP rights and to develop abilities to analyse creative work as a source for IP rights and to protect ideas if necessary. We will learn about designs, trademarks and patents, their origin, their scope of protection and their limits. The seminar's language is german.
We will discuss many examples of the world of arts, e.g., Banksy, John Lennon, Apple (music publishing vs. IT giant), Thonet furniture, Anish Kapoor, Lego, Jani Leinonen, Philippe Starck and many more.
The seminar closes with an examination talk for each student in order to achieve a successful participation.
Application to the seminar shall be conducted via base. Rooms and dates see below. Even if no successful paticipation is intended - everyone is wellcome.
