The course is intended to be a framework and a field of experimentation in the first year of study. To explore fields of interest, conditions and escapades of art.

And to reflect on what an artistic process can be and which of those can take place during the generation of art. And if we understand art as a system, as the title of this seminar suggests, what are the actors, materials and connecting elements in this system? What systems in (media) art are there in the first place? We will try to clarify basic definitions and terms from this system in order to better master its inherent language. 

Through examples of current art production as well as references to historical works, we will try to give a first idea of connections, materialities and contextualizations.

The class is intrinsically processual. In short studies and joint discussions we will focus on the above-mentioned topics, trying to grasp (basic) concepts of art and formulate our own first approaches to work through self-experiments and exercises as well as group discussions.
