Design: Developing Drafts - every Monday
How do we connect school and landscape through collaborative learning tools?
This semester we are developing drafts for design. We will be exploring how we can better connect our own educational environment with the wider landscape. We will be taking a fresh look at this relationship. This course could potentially lead you further in this fascinating and future-friendly field.
We will be using the FLUX terrace in conjunction with the surroundings of the Angewandte as our focus. We will question our idea of ‘landscape’ and research the surroundings of the building (landscape, built environment). The focus is on environmental issues: looking at the local and always bearing in mind the wider global issues. Our direction is to create future-friendly designs for the terrace in order to integrate the Angewandte with ‘landscape’. We will share the results at ‘Raum für Nachhaltigkeit’ on 27th and 28th March 2023 on the FLUX terrace itself. Come and see student-led examples of innovative design concepts from last semester at the ‘kick off’ on Monday, 10th October (BR 15, 2OG, VZA7). All are welcome!
The inspiration for this local, and at the same time, global focus comes from the Erasmus+ project ‘eduLANDS for transitions: Exploring collaborative learning tools to connect school and landscape’. In conjunction with Spanish and Italian partners, di:Angewandte is engaged in exploring how learning tools might enhance the connection between schools and the local environment. To give you an idea, did anybody see the project ‘Expanded Garden’ by Irene Lukas & Christopher Euler on the platform ‘Raum für Nachhaltigkeit’? The eduLANDs project runs from 2022 to 2024. Following a visit last semester, working on our collaboration with our partners in Murcia/Spain, this semester 2-3 people will go to Milan for a week, and in summer the partner institutions will come to Vienna.
Students have the option of developing design drafts or concepts for the FLUX Terrace into a ‘learning tool’ (tool kit) for schools. Look out for further courses. You will have the opportunity to participate in a multi-disciplinary project, which will provide you with transcultural and cross-disciplinary cooperation your own artistic project. Your work will be shared on a web platform for the teachers of the future, and teachers worldwide will be able to benefit from it.
