Architecture, Building Construction
2022W, scientific seminar (SEW), 3.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S01981
Building construction concepts are integrated into the studio project, creating a logical link between the architectural design and its technical elaboration. The course accompanies Architectural Design 5 (the pre-diploma project). According to their individual interests, the students define a construction topic that supports and/or complements the design topic. The design is to be concretised, deepened and enriched through constructive considerations.
Appropriate working methods are to be chosen (study of technical publications, material tests, development and evaluation of different variants of the details, construction of prototypes/mock-ups, etc.). In any case, the work consists of an analysis of reference examples with regard to comparable requirements and constructive solutions, including a documentation of the results and the elaboration of a constructive and design solution.
Experimental approaches that start from a careful examination of standard building methods and explore unconventional constructions are welcome.
The (documented) development processes are assessed – both the development of the design and the learning process.
