ECONOMY, AUTONOMY, ARTISTIC LABOR: BETWEEN SELF-ORGANIZATION AND PROFESSIONALIZATION.

The course examines the economies, working conditions as well as administrative and organizational tasks artists and organizers of independent exhibition spaces are facing. Together we will take a closer look at the many facets of self-management and self-organization, and consider different (non-)institutional frameworks in relation to artistic labor and economies theoretically, practically, and art historically.

Students who participated in last semester's course "Curatorial Perspectives on Self-Organized Spaces in Vienna" may register in advance.

The course comprises workshops, readings, guest lectures, and discussions. Students are required to attend the meetings, and will be asked to prepare for the class readings and co-moderate one discussion each.
