Description

The objective of the lecture is to impart & develop fundamental facts, theories and principles of for the design of repairable products.

By the means of examples and practical exercises the following topics will by gradually developed:

  • Life cycle assessment of products
  • Principles of the circular economy
  • Avoidance of premature obsolescence
  • Possibilities to maximize repairability
  • The right to repair and the role of open source hardware
  • Digital fabrication 
  • Existing standards and directives

Examination Modalities

For the successful completion of the course the following criteria will be used:

  • Constant and punctual participation (min. 70% attendance)
  • Submission and presentation of the exercises results (50%  of the grade)
  • Active participation in the discussion (50%  of the grade)
