One Afternoon Exhibitions

During the past semester we have visited institutions that have shown us examples of artistic work: a museum of modern and contemporary art, a picture gallery, a corporate collection, a center for contemporary dance and performance, and a municipal arts institution. These visits to institutions provided an impression of the different possibilities of artistic and sometimes interdisciplinary working methods as well as of different perspectives and examinations of artistic practices. Insights into artistic working methods through exhibition visits, art viewing and reflective discussions about performativity, references and the relationship between artists and society make it easier to find ways to make one's own work visible, to broaden horizons and to come into contact with different genres in the art field.

The course in the summer semester consists of the search for and development of an exhibition practice. In One Afternoon Exhibitions we will set up, document and dismantle an exhibition in the CDS Studio every two weeks.
The aim is to find ways of dealing with the framework conditions of an exhibition and to look for methods of working spatially, integrating one's own work into a group context and thinking about a formal and content-related exchange between the artistic works on display. In addition, the course addresses issues of installation, positioning, description and documentation of artworks.

This course is aimed at CDS students who would like to take part in the Angewandte Festival and at CDS students who are completing their bachelor's degree in the summer semester.

Requirements: Active participation and presence, willingness to work in groups. Independent visits to exhibitions outside of the university would be an advantage.
