2021W, Vorlesungen (VO), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04066
Taking recourse to the concept of "product culture" – coined by Gert Selle in 1978 – the lecture is treating its issue rather according to perspectives from technology and social studies, and not primary from a history of styles in architecture und design. With recourse to theoretical considerations made by, i.a. Sigfried Giedion, Lewis Mumford, Penny Sparke, Uta Brandes or Martina Heßler product culture could be regarded as the sum of design and consumer culture, based on technical and societal changes, i.e. industrial production of interchangeable parts, mass production or adapted working conditions. Famous programmes in art pedagogy, e.g. Arts and Crafts movement, Bauhaus or WChUTEMAS should be evaluated gender-critical in regards to their impact on craft education today. By the use of the "laboratory" paradigm in art education, theory construction in architecture and design education could be exemplified.
Oral or written-examinations.
The lecture will take place on thursday between 1.00 und 3.15 p.m. Course date will be scheduled soon.
