Objekt Metall - Datei, Material, Werkstück
Fine Arts and Media Art, Photography
2021W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S03995
Metal has a long, interdisciplinary tradition in artistic practice. Whether in a classic sense, as a workpiece or sculpture, as an image carrier, untreated material, sound generator in performances, in space-consuming installations or as a simple substructure.
In all of the above cases, basic knowledge is essential, regardless of the level of your own manual skills or technical capabilities.
Therefore, exercises in a metal workshop should demonstrate how the metal workpiece can be cut, drilled, milled, welded, connected or bent. The main focus is not on mastery, but on understanding the individual tasks.
The manual work in the metal workshop usually means the last step in a long process (which can often even be outsourced), the more important steps are preparation and planning, which will be examinend using a practical example. The metal file is playing an increasingly important role in automated manufacturing processes that are relocating the metal workshop to our computers.
The course is blocked, with an appointment for a preliminary discussion.
Dates will be announced here shortly.
Presence and assessment of individual exercises.
It is advantageous to have your own laptop with Autodesk Fusion360 (free trial or student version) pre-installed for the lecture.
Attention: the metal workshop is unheated, it is essential to bring warm work clothes and, if available, your own protective equipment (protective goggles, hearing protection, gloves, sturdy, closed shoes).
Access is limited to eight students.
