Beschreibung

In this course we will approach the very difficult task of drawing the world. We will collect material about our own movement in the world and analyze existing artistic approaches to making world maps. We may get trapped in abstraction and the many worlds behind each representation. We will find conflicts in the narration of our own history. We will appropriate the imagery of the past, chart the present and find our paths through these entanglements, create an Atlas of Hope.

During the winter term, in addition to a series of lectures and workshops with artists who will show us different practical approaches to drawing the world, we will focus on collecting and discussing the material we will work with. A more detailed schedule will be announced in the first session. At the end of the semester, each student will be required to present the material and artistic strategy they will use to work with their chosen material.

At the beginning of the summer semester, we will agree on a common format for the Atlas of Hope and focus on its production. More information will follow.

The following radio show by Nabihah Iqbal was a great inspiration for this course.
