“Art has no parameters ... Artists do, they continually re-define them” - Raivoo Puusemp in Beyond Art -- Dissolution of Rosendale, N.Y.
The purpose of this course is to introduce questions of Artistic Strategies as essentially and specifically shaped by artists as a response to and as an acknowledgment of the complex contexts in which artworks are produced and with which they aim to engage.
This course introduces artistic practices and critical visual thinking through art projects that combine lens-based media, performance, and public intervention to define strategies for artistic engagement in the public space, in relationship with a core theme of the departement Artistic Strategies: On Ethics of Representation and Strategies of Public Visibility.
Throughout the semester, the students will engage with practical assignments, to experiment and produce an artistic strategy to respond to questions of visibility in the public space. Debate, readings, screenings, and excursions supplement the practice-based assignments.
