Angewandte Geometrie 1

Georg Glaeser
Art and Technology, Geometry
2021W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 3.0 ECTS, 3.0 semester hours, course number S03622

The lecture is about theory and the numerous applications of geometry. The practical portion delves deeper into the subjects of the course. Students have the chance to select several of these subjects, to research them further, and to present their results. A special emphasis is put on the ability to express oneself using geometrically correct terminology, on the clarity of the ideas presented, and on the style of the presentation itself. This is good practice for aspiring architects and designers, who will eventually have to present ideas convincingly, and in a scientifically correct context.

(If it is going to be necessary to switch to distance learning during the semester, this course will be continued virtually. More information will be provided in due time.)

Due to the nationwide lockdown that is in place since 22.11.21, this course will switch to distance learning. The lecture will be held at the regular times via Zoom. The link will be provided via email for all registered students. If the possibility of returning to the university during the next weeks opens up, you will be informed about it via base and email.

Examination Modalities

Students will usually give a paper (or papers) after taking the Applied Geometry exam, so a certain standard in terms of basic geometric knowledge can be expected. Assessment for this course includes the delivery and the written/electronic form of the paper(s) as well as, more generally, constructive contributions to discussions.

Detailed information about the exam will be provided in due course (depending on the Covid-19 situation).

(If a switch to distance learning will become necessary during the semester, there will be no public presentations. Instead, written contributions will eventually result in the grade. Further information will be provided by the lecturer.)

The lecture is held in English.

At this point in time, the lecture will likely be held in Seminarraum 7. As soon as there is more information available concerning the Covid-management for this semester, you will receive updates via this platform.
