From Upper Paleolithic to Late Middle Ages (Zyklus I)

Description
This course offers an orientation aid in the very broad field of artistic practices from prehistory to the late Middle Ages. An overview with regard to basic questions of visual languages and to different functions of artistic and cultural production will be given: We will explore different ways of using images in different cultural areas and periods of time and deal with the respective significance of images, ornamentation, monumental sites as well as small objects and their roots in cultic or religious practices.
Examination Modalities
Written exams on January 24, 3:30-5:00, and February 28, 2022, 3:30-5:00. The exams will take place via zoom. There is no registration necessary - access to the meeting as usual. Oral exams by appointment.
Comments
The lecture will be accompanied by a tutorial led by Astrid Sodomka.
Image scripts, a handout with listed literature, and some copies of essays and chapters of books can be found in our OwnCloud folder. After registration for the course in base Angewandte access to this folder will be given automatically. There is also a book reserve in our library.
