Description

Studies in Balance

Applied Filmmaking II  covers the fundamentals and practice of moving image recording techniques. Through  exercises (so called studies in balance) working as a professional photographer making moving image will be trained; working with equipment of the departement in the studio and on location.  We deal with studio, still and animation recording, lighting and video techniques, video editing in Premiere.

The technical exercises are aligned with the annual theme of the Department  Applied Photography and Time-based Media. We´re going to deal with things and objects  in 2021. In the class Aufnahmetechnik - Moving Image II  we examine essential characteristics of "things" via  shooting technique:

Exercise 1:

Look at objects and everything around you not in terms of

any use or purpose. Try to see them as if you did not know

what their purpose was. Arrange them differently, understand

them, defamiliarise them from their actual meaning.

When arranging them and structuring your picture try to

leave out everything that does not seem necessary to you.

Find a balance either via the objects or via the design of

the picture. Or both. Observe how the light changes the

appearance of Things. Place them under different lighting

conditions. Then photograph them.

Examination Modalities

Applied Project. 80% attendance is mandatory.
