Ringvorlesung Transcultural Studies

Nanna Heidenreich
Art Sciences and Art Education, Transcultural Studies
2021S, Ringvorlesung mit Workshop (RVW), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S03737

Description

To begin with, this lecture series returns to early academic conceptualizations of “transculturation” in the context of the colonial occupation of Cuba in order to develop a critical vocabulary through which more recent ideas and trends of “transcultural” phenomena can be approached and analyzed.

Alternating between guest lectures and two workshops to consolidate our critical readings, we will focus on specific processes linked to “transculturation” in the colonial, neocolonial and anti-colonial worlds: migration and mobility including its administration and infrastructure (guest lecture by Aliénor Cadiot), political economies and ecologies (guest lecture tbc), translation as praxis of political literacy (guest lecture by Lina Mounzer, co-hosted with the Institute for Language Arts), and transduction / sound (guest lecture tbc) as well as a screening and discussion with the “Jünglinge” collective and their film “Futur 3” on queer, feminist and postmigrant practices and the sound of a future which is already there because it is imagined.

The lecture series is organised by Nanna Heidenreich and Viktoria Metschl who will also hold the workshops together.

Examination Modalities

Literature and examination modalities will be announced at the beginning of the semester.

Comments

Some lectures will be in English, some in German. Workshops will be held in German, but will accommodate English speaking students as well, as long as you understand (some) German: translation is also a practice of being together and of generous listening. Final exams can be submitted in either English or German.

Participation in individual lectures is possible and a larger audience is welcome. However for those who need ECTS full participation is required.

Until further notice, the event will be held online in Zoom.
