Ways of Seeing

In this seminar we will train our eyes.  We will have a look at art works, by having  a focus on the conditions, under which the art works were produced and how they are presented. John Berger, an english art critic, poet and painter (1926-2017) published a television series titled ‚Ways of Seeing’, which was produced by the BBC  in 1972. What has made this series so special is the way John Berger is bringing traditional and contemporary techniques of seeing together. I borrowed the title of Berger’s TV-series for our seminar, because we will work on our own view by reflecting nowadays techniques of seeing. The word technique we can take litterally – we will discuss art works through the lense of new technologies to learn more about the differences of analog and digital strategies.
