Viral phenomena are objects or patterns that are able to replicate themselves or convert other objects into copies of themselves when these objects are exposed to them. Analogous to the way in which viruses propagate, the term viral pertains to a video, image, or written content spreading to numerous online users within a short time period.[1] This concept has become a common way to describe how thoughts, information, and trends move into and through a human population.[2] 17.01.21

The term of the viral is presently dominating us both in the sense of health challenges medical measurements and political reactions of society concerning the immune system caused by the Covid 19 virus and its mutations as well as a phenomenon within a global system of of social media and some of ist fundamental technologies, hierarchies and systemic approaches.

„to go viral“ could also be seen as the contemporary take on Andy Warhols statement in 1968 „In the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes“

The present conditions of life under conditions of lockdowns and the related shifts of analogue communication towards digital media put up new challenges , individually and on the level of society.

And in the art field as well as in economy the question rises which will be the nature of „post pandemic performance“ defining the „new normal“.

In the seminar we will be concerned with questioning our own visions and practices of post pandemic performance and figure out which tools and philosophies are at hands to create new ecologies in the fields of media and under analogue conditions.

We will read texts by Donna Haraway, Boyana Kunst, Marshall Mc Luhan ...
