Beschreibung

“Intermixing digital and body-based performance”

This seminar welcomes all students who are interested in combining analog and digital performance as a creator and/or as a performer, or as a collaborator/designer.

*** Please note that in the event of an obligation to switch to a distance learning mode, the objectives and methods described below will be maintained and the following modalities will be favored, as far as possible: - a maximum of artistic practice time for a minimum of time spent online. - an emphasis on the possibility for each participant to receive individual feedback. In this perspective, the proportion of supervised individual work will be increased.

Context: Embracing practices and discourses related to performative somatic practices and the digital arts, this workshop stands in the context of post-digitality: where the tools to collect corporeal data are ubiquitous and increasingly available, redefining the field of performance arts; and where the digital arts break out of the confinement of the screen to re-read the space of the real and the field of multimodal perception.

Objective: As a first step, participants will be introduced to the basics of bodily performance. They will quickly learn to rely on solid methodological foundations that will support them in sketching artistic works of performative bodily and digital hybridization, while avoiding the clichés that may be attached to it. The aim is to develop a critical reflection on the artistic potential of intermixing body language and digital media, an asset in the creation of transdisciplinary artworks.

Method and outcome: Work is partly done in the classroom-studio - and/or eventually outdoor, or at home - , where supervised body awareness practices will be performed in-group and/or individually. Participants will be guided to create performative work-sketches intertwining analog and digital concepts. They can also develop their existing performance projects in greater depth. Alone or in teams, they will practice translating and transposing body-based performative parametres into other media parametres in an interdisciplinary approach. In this process, a suitable format for a future augmented physical performance (live performance, video, or installation) will be determined. The outcome is the realization of the original augmented performance work-sketches.
