Kunst der Gegenwart (Zyklus IV)

Eva Kernbauer
Art Sciences and Art Education, Art History
2021S, Vorlesungen (VO), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S02371

Description

This lecture is focused on the discussion of artworks since the 1950s. A discussion of which criteria are apt to characterize and periodize "contemporary art" and how this periodization resonates with globalisation will accompany us during the whole semester.

Each lecture will discuss artworks or projects along thematic axes relevant today: materiality and conceptualism, intermediality, transculturality and globalisation, relations between artist and their audience, body politics, the integration of ecological debates, as well as social and ethical turns in art and art criticism.

The lecture will be held online.

Examination Modalities

There will be a written exam at the end of the term, which can be taken optionally in German or English.

There will be two more exam dates in October and November 2021.

Info on exam registration will follow until May/June.

Registration to the lecture is mandatry. It will facilitate access to lecture materials (texts, images, films etc).

This is the zoom-link for the lecture (the code was sent out to all registered students on Monday, March 15th  and is also documented in the image script of the first lecture in OwnCloud):

Comments

The lecture will be held in German (with an English lecture following in spring 2022).  Regular attendance is advised.

It is accompanied by a tutorial course led by Elisabeth Petutschnig (sissi.petutschnig@hufak.net). She will also organize sessions to discuss specific topics, artworks and/or texts. Information on the tutorial course can be found at www.angewandtekunstgeschichte.net and on here below. Furthermore there is a google document where you can find FAQ, the questions will be collected during the whole semester and will be updated (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wzA7CEtbgHjOW_lDeisUmq8mLnZmDbD47LWNlHV5Ivk/edit?usp=sharing)

The image scripts shown in the lecture will be uploaded weekly in the OwnCloud folder together with useful texts for each chapter. As you register for the lecture in Base Angewandte, access to the OwnCloud folder will be activated automatically. All images can be viewed with additional information and downloaded on the image database IMAGE (access within Base Angewandte, see tab above).

Helpful literature has been made accessible in the library in a special "Handapparat" (reference collection).

A handout with detailed information on the lecture programme, the tutorial programme, recommended literature, and more is published in the OwnCloud folder and on www.angewandtekunstgeschichte.net.
