High Risk - High Reward

This second part of the tutorial to team skills will explore the new shapes solidarity takes in the digital age.  With the myth of individual algorithmic predictions, the principle of solidarity which was based on the idea of an uncertain future has been put to the test. Can it be reissued in the digital age?

We will base our exploration of the topic on an example in professional sports: Thanks to Big Data it has become possible to identify professional sport players from around the world who are a perfect match in terms of talent and physical ability. Only a few of these similarly talented athletes will make it big. A US-based start-up had the idea to motivate players to form a "community of solidarity": if one of them were to become a star athlete and earn millions in salary, the insurance would guarantee that the star-player would share a part of that salary with the others.

We will develop and explore concepts that beg the question: Do communities of equals undermine the willingness to help the weaker? Or do such models offer opportunities for new cross-border forms of cooperation and mutual insurance?
