Earthrise — Mission Weltaufgang* An introduction to the most relevant philosophies, approaches and methods for Sustainable Development**, and transformative experiments for artists and designers.

This course is based on the „Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)“ of the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations. It is organized in modular units which take place over the course of two semesters. Participation in only one semester is possible.

The winter term is focused on an overview and introduction to current models and methods of sustainability and circular innovation and design. The summer term will be dedicated to practical and artistic experiences and experiments.

* Earthrise is a photograph of Earth behind the Moon‘s horizon that was taken from lunar orbit by astronaut William Anders on December 24, 1968, during the Apollo 8 mission. This very first image of planet Earth taken by a human is declared to be the most influential environmental photograph ever taken and to have initiated the beginning of the environmental movement. „We set out to explore the moon and instead discovered the Earth.“ (William Anders)

** Sustainable Development Goals: In 2015, the United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Paris, where the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development was adopted by all 193 member states of the UN. It entails 17 Sustainable Development Goals called SDGs, which include the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental. The SDGs are a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
