This lecture was introduced to explain the origin of details of pattern techniques and sewing and to understand why a pocket is placed on a particular position, why the depth of a pocket has a certain length etc.

The students get technical information, and they can apply some knowledge directly into practice when they invent new pockets, collars, sleeves etc during these days.

In this lecture we also try to point out the quality of the making, and we want to motivate the students to think about the function of details in garments nowadays and in future life.

This semester we will work on the topic "Uniforms"

Wednesday 7th of October:

 

10:00 am- 12:00 am:              Introduction 2 h (all years)

 

Afternoon:                  Leave university for research:  go to libraries, museums, army shops, shops for work uniforms….

                                   Make at least 30 photos from details you like.

                                   Think about what the word “uniform” means in general and what it means for you, think about the function of uniforms, about colours,  pockets, closing systems etc…

Thursday 8th of October:

 

10:00-12:00 am:         1 st year investigating garments (at fashion department)

2nd & 3rd year deeper research, sketches (you can already work at the fashion department)

1:00pm-5:00pm:        all years at the fashion department , work on your ideas based on your research in 3 D (Moulage , technical sewing tests, patterns)

 

Friday 9th of October:

 

10:00am-1:00 pm:     all years at the fashion department , work on your ideas based on your research in 3 D (Moulage , technical sewing tests, patterns)

2:00pm-3:00pm:        2nd & 3rd year: work on a 5 min presentation of your output

                                   1st year work on your ideas

3:00pm-5:00pm:        Presentation of the 3 days 2nd & 3rd year (1st year listening J)

 

 

Additional information:

Start researching about shops, museums libraries etc. on forehand (where you could go, opening hours…etc.)

1st year: buy a vintage garment concerning uniform ( bring it along on Thursday)

For all: bring along all tools necessary for working with patterns, Moulage and sewing techniques, bring your computers, if you want you can also buy a vintage garment.

 

Tools: Measuring tape, pins, ruler, pencil, Molino (cotton fabric in off white for tests)
